The long-awaited Bucana Bridge in Davao City is now fully complete, marking a major milestone in the city’s infrastructure story and strengthening the legacy of former President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, who first pushed the modernization of Davao’s road network.(ads1)
The project began in November 2023 under the Davao City Coastal Bypass Road program, a vision rooted in Duterte’s Build, Build, Build momentum. The bridge was funded through a ₱3.126-billion grant from China, implemented by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) with China Road and Bridge Corporation as contractor.
Spanning 1.34 kilometers, the four-lane, six-span extradosed bridge connects Barangay 76-A Bucana and Matina Aplaya, providing a new major crossing over the Davao River. It is designed to ease heavy traffic, cut travel time, and open wider economic access for communities along the coastline.(ads2)
By mid-2025, the superstructure and main deck were completed, followed by finishing works scheduled for full public opening in December 2025. Once operational, the Bucana Bridge is expected to decongest major roads, support commerce, and serve thousands of daily motorists.
For Davao City residents, the project stands as a symbol of long-term planning started under Duterte and continued to completion, proving how sustained infrastructure development transforms communities.
