Manila, Philippines — November 5, 2025
Ombudsman Jesus Crispin “Boying” Remulla has revealed details about his serious health challenges and remarkable recovery, reassuring the public that he is now in good condition and fully capable of performing his duties.
In a recent statement, Remulla shared that he underwent a quintuple heart bypass surgery in mid-2023 after being diagnosed with coronary artery disease. Not long after his operation, doctors discovered that he was also battling leukemia, a form of blood cancer.
“I am living day by day,” Remulla said in an earlier interview. “It was a difficult journey, but my family and faith gave me the strength to overcome it.”
Following the diagnosis, the Ombudsman underwent two cycles of chemotherapy, total body irradiation, and a bone marrow transplant—with one of his children serving as a perfect donor match. After months of treatment and strict medical monitoring, he has now been declared cancer-free for over a year.
According to the Office of the Ombudsman, Remulla has returned to full duty and continues to lead his office actively. “He remains physically fit and capable of fulfilling his responsibilities,” the office said, noting that he has resumed his daily exercise routine and maintains a healthy lifestyle.
The recovery of Ombudsman Remulla has drawn both public admiration and respect, as he continues to serve despite his past medical struggles. Supporters commend his resilience and commitment to transparency, noting that his openness about his health inspires confidence in his leadership.
Remulla stated that his second chance at life has deepened his dedication to public service. “When you face your mortality, you realize the importance of integrity and purpose,” he said. “This experience renewed my faith and my mission to serve the Filipino people.”
As of today, Remulla is back in full swing at the Office of the Ombudsman, overseeing anti-corruption efforts and various government investigations. His health journey stands as a testament to perseverance, faith, and public accountability.
